Sharing some questionable details about marketing and technical stuff about Instagram.
version of Instagram advertising. Three common ways to show your posts to users:
- Users find content through keywords (hashtags, usernames), eg: kitten and cat
- Users will see your post in their news-feed if they follow you
- Pay Instagram so that your post is shown also to users that don't follow you
You may pay for advertising on Instagram through the advertising platform on Facebook or through the Instagram App on your phone. You will need an account on Facebook in both cases.
This guide is very descriptive. The Instagram App is simpler. You will find the following options when promoting an image post through the App:
- Where to send people*: Profile, website (you may pick a custom URL), direct messages on Instagram
- Action button: Learn More, Shop Now, Watch More, Contact Us, Book Now, Sign Up
- Target audience: Automatic or creating your own
- Own target audience: Location. Select distance radius or areas
- Own target audience: Interests. Similar to hashtags, provided by Instagram. You may use keywords in different languages but Instagram will translate them into English and conflate the keywords
- Own target audience: Age and gender
- Spending: You decide upon a budget for a time period. Each click on your post will be deducted from your budget. You also pick a daily limit regarding the deduction
Instagram will provide you with insights for each promotion:
- Spending
- Audience: Gender, age range, top locations
- *Website or profile redirects
- How many people saw it (and how many people started following you based on that), generated clicks (impressions) and follows
